D3 Space Superiority Fighter
A 3rd generation starfighter, the D3 is a rugged design, utilizing several advancements acquired from Star Gate trade with Endes.
The D3 is also the first Ptolan fighter equipped with off-world shield generators and hyperdrives, for use when operating outside the SDZ (subspace disruption zone). Within the SDZ around their planet, both shields and repulsors fail to operate correctly, so all Ptolan pilots are trained in advanced orbital re-entry maneuvers, whereby they cut all inertial dampening and perform reverse thrust using their main engines to decay their orbital speed and essentially enter a free-fall into the atmosphere. Without such maneuvers, their craft would burn up on re-entry, but when performed correctly it becomes a matter of basically inducing an intentional flat spin that they then recover from once the atmosphere is dense enough to allow controlled flight.
Sensors and maneuvering thrusters are much larger than galactic standard, owing to their more crude design and lack of exotic materials normally available off-world, but despite the relatively primitive construction of these devices, they offer offer similar performance to those on starfighters throughout the Galaxy.
The one thing Ptolan starfighters tend to lack, is efficient Inertial dampening. This makes piloting a Ptolan fighter a matter only for the most physically fit candidates.
Where Ptolan starfighters shine, is in atmospheric capability. Since repulsorlifts and projected energy fields do not work on their homeworld, all starfighters are designed to fly through purely aerodynamic performance. This gives their craft unparalleled aerodynamic maneuverability and efficiency, able to perform maneuvers and operate at speeds that outmatch any standard starfighter when operating in an atmosphere. Ironically, the D3 is one of the least aerodynamic designs in the Ptolan starfighter force, being the first Starfighter designed primarily for space based combat and hyperdrive capability. Even with these trade offs, it is still roughly 50% faster and more maneuverable in atmosphere than even the ultra-modern T-65 X-Wing starfighter rumored to be in use with the Rebel Alliance.

Note on Ammunition:
The most costly and difficult to manufacture ammunition in the their arsenal, the Ptolan provisional unified government has spared no expense where it comes to equipping their fledgling space forces.
With conventional energy weapons being ineffective within their solar system, their development of physical projectile weapons has reached a level that is unmatched by the rest of the galaxy, to the point of being nearly on par with the best energy-based weapons used by conventional galactic forces, even if lacking endurance.

"SAPPER" - Shield Activated Proton Particle Explosive Round
- Caseless Electrically-fired Ammunition. Increases carry capacity.
- Utilizes an mixed alloy compound containing depleted Baradium mixed with metallic explosives, clad in a bonded metalic cladding that keeps it stable and contains any trace radiation.
- Activated by impact with high energy induced by a shield impact, the mixed internal explosive compound detonates, inducing a flashing into a prompt-supercritical state at the microscopic level, providing a low-yield radiological energy burst that tends to feed back into and damage shield emitters.
- When impacting conventional matter, the heat generated by impact sets off the explosive in a naturally delayed fashion. Though lacking the extra energy of a shield impact needed to induce a prompt-supercritical reaction in the Baradium, the naturally high mass and density of the Baradium makes it ideal for penetrating armor and providing kinetic damage.
