OPENING CRAWL

TERROR FROM THE EMPIRE! The REBEL ALLIANCE
has received an emergency distress signal from
Suki Rau, one of its many spies in the Imperial Navy.

An experimental bioweapon was released on the Imperial
Star Destroyer REVENANT, forcing Suki to call for an extraction.
Rau has vital information on several Imperial bioweapons
which could turn the tide of the war.

An intrepid team of heroes has been dispatched to
the BRUNET system using a 'stolen small Imperial shuttle',
to recover Rau and discover the cause of the weapon's
release. Little do they know that they are in more
danger than they can possibly imagine...

Our heroes are given their mission by General Ithao Izrie of the Alliance High Command. As they have worked together on previous missions, they already know each other pretty well and trust in their ability to get this task accomplished quickly and without being caught. To this end, they have been furnished with a standard Rebel Commando loadout and given a stolen small imperial shuttle (Lambda-class), the Eclipse. This task force is given a simple enough mission - recover a Rebel informant (Suki Rau) with vital information regarding Imperial bioweapons. In order to rescue him, they will have to sneak on board the Imperial Star Destroyer Revenant.

HERO EQUIPMENT - TYPICAL REBEL COMMANDO LOADOUT
Utility Belt (see below), BlasTech DL-18 blaster pistol (4D), Quickdraw Holster (+1D to blaster skill when using ADV. Quick Draw), garotte (STR+1D), vibroknife (STR+1D), Comlink, Macrobinoculars (+1D search over 50 meters), low-feedback scanner (uses sensors, detects movement at ranges of 0-1/3,5 km), sensor scramblers (+2D to the difficulty to detect with sensors), camouflage fatigues (+2D to sneak in appropriate terrains at ranges of 35+ meters).

NOTE: the Utility Belt comes with 1 High-tension wire (20m), 2 grappling hooks, 2 spare blaster power packs. 2 ion flares. 2 weeks' worth of concentrated rations, spare (personal) comlink, 2 water packs, 2 medpacs. 2 spare supplies pouches.

THE BEGINNING IS A VERY DELICATE TIME....
The lines of hyperspace drag back out into solid points of light. Ahead of the ship is an Imperial Star Destroyer, the Revenant. At first glance, nothing seems out of the ordinary. The ship still has power and appears to be in working order. However, a second look reveals the truth: most of the turbo lasers are damaged and pointed at odd angles, there are fires all over the hull, and almost every hangar's entrance is blocked off with destroyed TIE Fighters. You can see one hangar that is accessible near the center.

Once the heroes are within sensor range, Lana Star's preliminary passive scan of the Revenant shows most of the ship has weak life signs, particularly concentrated on the bridge and throughout the center portions of the ship.

Ethan's attempt to make first contact with the Revenant through the comms results only in static at first, but after a few short moments, a soft pinging can be heard. It sounds like a distress beacon, the Padawan informs his teammates.

A successful Difficult Sensors check by Lana reveals the source of the beacon to be originating from the ship's armory. Landing in the only accessible hangar requires an Easy Space Transports check which Marius executes, flawlessly. Our heroes prepare to disembark, albeit with all due caution - since they have all realized there is something very wrong with this battleship...

THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS
As the Eclipse enters the hangar and comes to a safe landing, the heroes notice that there is no one inside. However, upon disembarking and taking a closer look, they notice that there are several pools of blood on the floor and more covering the walls. Despite all of the blood, there aren't any bodies in the puddles, but their weapons remain. About twenty meters from their transport ship are several large boxes, some chest high, others taller than an average human.

The TIE Fighters all appear to have been destroyed; some have their cockpits broken, some have one or both wings removed, and some are completely obliterated. There is a blast door to the hallway ahead. Of special note seems to be a corpse of a female Imperial Navy Officer is lying against the wall under the door's controls. She appears to be clutching something...

A closer investigation of the body has Lana and Ethan notice that the corpse is holding a datapad in one hand and a holdout blaster in the other. She has been bitten multiple times on the arms and face, some bites taking large chunks of flesh out of her. There is a blaster mark on the side of her head. Ethan manages to 'wrestle' the datapad away from the dead officer and begins to peruse its contents which do not seem to be encrypted or password protected.

(Phoenix is having a difficult time being anywhere near the Officer's corpse as she seems to be fighting some unknown phobia.)

On the datapad, along with countless mundane dealings on the ship, there are two notable files. The first is a map of the Revenant and the power consumption of different areas. Most of the ship only has back up power. The closest place with full power is the ship's main armory. The second file is a voice recording. Ethan decides to play the recording, letting the rest of the team listen in as well. The contents of the file are as follows:

"we've destroyed the ships in all of the hangars. There's no way off this ship now. I can hear them banging on the door... It is only a matter of time before they get in; I won't let them get to me. I will not turn into one of those things. Frank, if you hear this, I am sorry. Sorry for putting my position before you. Sorry for never being around. Sorry for not making time for you. I love you." He takes a deep breath. "This is Major Kathleen Marshall-Kennedy of the Imperial Navy, signing off." You then hear a blaster being fired and something heavy hitting the floor.

Ethan decides to give the datapad to Marius, as the Jedi Knight is likely to assume leadership of the group in one way or another. As the heroes prepare to make for the armory - where the distress beacon seems to be originating from - the dead Imperial Navy Officer comes to life and attacks. In the aftermath of the encounter, Marius loses a piece of his ear (as the Major attempted to bite his face) and Ethan barely escapes the corpse's deadly grasp with the assistance of Phoenix's vibroblade and a well-placed blaster shot (in the crook of its elbow). Braddoc is shot in the arm but manages to patch himself up with a timely use of a medpac. His arm is not at a 100% yet (-4 HP) but it is mobile and usable!

Lana manages to prevent further damage (via application of gauze and a disinfecting bacta strip) to Marius Shae's earlobe as she also collects the lost piece and keeps it cool and disinfected for future re-attachment. At some point during the skirmish but unnoticed until now, is the vomiting Corellian who begins to exhibit all the signs and symptoms of a really bad flu. Ethan attempts to relieve some of Nix's discomfort with the Force, so she can move on with the rest of the party - as does Marius (for himself), attempting to control his pain levels with the Force.

Before the heroes decide to move on, Braddoc takes a look at one of the crates stacked in random places all over the hangar. He pries open the lid and digs out a box sealed only with packing tape. He decides to hold onto it and prepares to move out with the others...? Kagan is waiting in the exit for the party. He and Marius decide to take point.

INFECTED TERRORS
As our heroes enter the hallway with Marius and Kagan in front, Shae sees a Stormtrooper with his back to the party, but he does not look right. His left arm is missing from the elbow down and leaving a puddle of blood under it. He is hunched over, revealing that a large part of his lower back is exposed. The flesh that you can see is ash grey and necrotic. The entire hall smells like death.

Kagan attempts to sneak to take a closer look at the Stormtrooper and whatever else that might lie ahead. The closer he gets to the Stormtrooper, the more blood and viscera he can smell. The Stormtrooper is wheezing softly, almost like he's out of breath. Kagan can see four more Stormtroopers with similar afflictions ahead, each in a puddle of blood. One looks like a small hole has been blown through his stomach. Another is missing a large part of his back, seemingly eaten of. None of them have noticed the party just yet.

As for Marius, he too attempts to be as stealthy as possible. Unfortunately, his squeaky boots give away his approach, causing the Stormtrooper to turn around and let out a loud screech. His helmet is broken at the mouth, revealing teeth as sharp as knives and the red-yellow ooze dripping from them. Behind it, Shae can see four similar Stormtroopers shambling toward the party.

Another skirmish ensues, during which Marius kills the Stormtrooper that had first noticed him. Kagan takes care of another, while the remainder of the party keep firing on the remaining three, causing them grievous bodily harm - although they are not down and out of the fight - just yet..

ONTO THE ARMORY
After the heroes dispatched the remaining Infected Stormtroopers (and Cal narrowly escaped serious injury), Ethan and Kagan began looking around in the hallway while Lana attempted to take care of her ailing Padawan and the Arkanian. As Nix's symptoms began to re-manifest themselves again, the young Corellian (in spite of her best efforts at holding back from doing so!) ended up gagging all over her master's shoes and lower legs. Still, there was no indication that she was deathly ill, although the constant sneezing, vomiting and ongoing headache made it quite challenging for Nix to stay alert and in full command of her abilities.

As the group continued down the hall, it became obvious (for most) that the control panels for the doors on either side have been smashed or shot. One door had a corpse in front of it. His right hand had been torn off. His remaining hand was covered in blood and there was a combat knife embedded in his skull. Written on the door are the words: "DT inside stay away" in what looked like blood.

Ethan was ahead of the pack, with Kagan attempting to catch whatever little clues were left on this ship that his younger cohort failed to. Yet it was Ethan who first spied the door marked 'ARMORY'. As both men got closer, they heard a knock from the inside. "Are you here for the spy?" a muffled voice said from the other side. The owner of it sounded quite terrified. "Have any of you been bitten? Swallowed any blood or saliva of the infected? Gotten any of it in your eyes or open cuts or bruises?"

Giving the voice some factual answers that were apparently enough to elicit some measure of trust from the unseen stranger, the voice replied, saying: "Oh, thank goodness! I am Saki Rau. Give me a moment to open the door." After a few moments, the door opened, revealing a thin, young man with pale skin and dark brown hair. A heavy blaster pistol is on his hip. "Please, come in. We will be safe here."

Rebel Operative/Alliance Spy Saki Rau
The rest of the group, having made their way inside the armory (which Rau promptly locked up again), took a quick gander at what was kept inside. They immediately caught a glimpse of a large pile of rations and water, three enormous racks of various weapons and equipment, and a servant droid.

ffywvsO.png

Suki Rau's 'servant droid'
"Master Rau, who are these people?" the droid asked. "They are not registered in the Imperial database."

"These are the people who are going to get us off this ship, LT," Rau said. "This is LT-146, my droid and the only companion I've had since the outbreak. I assume that you have seen what happened to the rest of the crew."

"We were told to transport the bioweapon from Khanji Seven. Bioweapons project 171A, the Blackwing Virus. Of course, someone dropped a canister of the stuff, and it must have leaked into the air." He pulled a ration pack from the pile and starts eating it.

"Within two days, most of the ship had turned into those things. Someone started calling them Deathtroopers, quite a fitting name. When they first turn, they can barely hold anything. After a while, however, they get smarter. I've seen some of them shooting blasters and trying to use TIE Fighters. There's a good reason we destroyed every fighter and transport ship on board."

"There is a vaccine for the airborne strain. Last time I saw some, it was in a nearby lab. Almost everyone was given it. Unfortunately, it won't save you if you get bitten by any of the infected."

"We have to destroy the Revenant. We took everything involving the virus up with us: the research, the creators, and the virus itself. No one can be allowed to get their hands on it." Sau grabbed two large backpacks. "These are filled with enough explosives to destroy the core."

"Sir, I hope you won't leave me behind?" LT asks."I do not want to cease functioning."

"We will take you with us, LT, don't worry." Rau then turned back to the heroes. "We will have to make our way through some Deathtroopers. There might be some living Imperials left on the ship, so we'll need to be careful around them. Go ahead and take some weapons and supplies. We'll leave whenever you're ready."

The group took some time to scavenge through the weapons and equipment stored in the Armory. After some careful perusing, each PC emerged with the following:
  1. Cal: 2 DH-17, 2 medpacs, 2 Stun Grenades
  2. Ethan: 2 medpacs, DH-17
  3. Kagan: 2 medpacs, 2 Stun Grenades, DH-17
  4. Lana: Light Repeating Blaster, Vibroblade (STR+3D; maximum: 6D), 3 Frag Grenades
  5. Nix: None; was too ill to rummage through the stuff and figure out what would benefit her most - given the ailing state she was in.
As the group was about to leave the armory, Rau looked at LT and said, "Head to their ship and stay on board. Don't let anyone on unless it is us." The servant droid responded with, "Right away, Master Rau. Please take care of yourself."

HALLWAY AMBUSH
Unfortunately, just as the group began heading out in the direction of the ship's Core and the lab, more individuals (Lana, Cal) began feeling symptoms of the virus that was sweeping through the Revenant. Having little choice and time running out for the infected heroes (the disease takes 12 hrs before fully taking hold of the individual, according to Rau), everyone began moving in the direction of the ship's core. Most doors were locked or barricaded from the other side. For down the hall, the group suddenly heard the screech of a Deathtrooper... who quickly closed the distance to the group before lunging at them!

Some party members managed to dodge out of the way at the last second, the Deathtrooper's bloody claws narrowly missing their faces. But one of the heroes was not so lucky - the Deathtrooper manages to tackle the Arkanian and pin him to the ground - its snarling mouth dripping with viscera and blood, only inches from the young Jedi's face...

HALLWAY AMBUSH, continued!

Unfortunately for Cal, who got pinned by a smelly, decomposing Deathtrooper, matters got slightly worse when the Arkanian failed to wrestle his way out of the enemy's grasp and ended up getting bitten on the shoulder, instead. With the majority of the group now becoming infected with the airborne virus, it was imperative that these troopers be dealt with swiftly. As the skirmish went on, Phoenix ended up getting a fractured wrist from one of the Infected's grasp. Eventually, however - all the enemies but one, were dispatched into whatever afterlife they believed in - with the final Stormtrooper running away in a panic after realizing all his cohorts were dead.

"Well, that was terrifying," Rau said after the battle was over, catching his breath. "The lab shouldn't be much further." He then promptly led the group to a room labeled "Medical Lab".

The lab was torn to shreds. Equipment datapads, and vials were smashed and thrown all over the room. There was a single cooling chamber left intact. Rau hurried to it and looked inside. "Good, they're still here. More than enough for all of you." He pulled out a few large syringes. "I hope none of you are afraid of needles." There might have been a squeamish member in the bunch, but Rau had a ready response for him, too. "Oh, don't worry, they also made it in a chewable form, a liquid form, and an anal suppository. Get over here and take the damn needle."

As no one in the group refused inoculation, everyone's symptoms began to ease in minutes - bringing much needed relief to those who were vaccinated first.

Having Major Kennedy's datapad still on hand, Ethan was perusing its contents some more while others were tending to their wounds and getting hydrated, etc. He found that while most of the data had been corrupted due to damage, one file remained. It appeared to be some kind of formula for a virus. The file's name was "Blue Shadow Virus". Deciding to ask Rau more about this virus, Ethan learned that it was a virus that some Separatist scientist brought back to Naboo during the Clone Wars. Before that, it almost wiped out most life in the galaxy over 1000 years ago. It was very deadly. Rau also assured the young Jedi that he need not carry the datapad around. The Rebel spy already had the full file on the virus, and then some - on his.

After everyone had been successfully vaccinated and the wounded were looked after (Kagan self-medicating with first aid and Lana helping Nix stabilize her fractured wrist), Rau assured everyone they were now safe from getting infected from breathing. There was just one thing left to do: blow up the Revenant to smithereens!

He took the heroes out of the lab and lead them down the hall, his pistol at the ready. On the way, the group saw a technician crushed under a blast door. "Poor Lewbo.." Rau kneeled next to him. "For an Imperial, he wasn't too bad. He deserved a lot better... Oh well. Let's keep moving." At the end of the hall was another blast door. "Once we are through this room, we will be at the core. Are you ready?"

They were definitely ready - and attempted to sneak the rest of the way to the core. Braddoc's boots, however, did not want to cooperate and although he did his best to be as quiet and stealthy as possible - his footwear unintentionally announced their presence with loud squeaks, as the group stepped out onto a balcony.

There was a staircase below that led to the main floor, and there was a pile of boxes at the bottom. Below, the group saw two factions: a group of Deathtroopers and other infected, and a group of Stormtroopers led by a Stormtrooper Sergeant. The Stormtroopers were firing on the infected and some of the infected were shooting back. The blast door to the core could be seen on the far side of the room.

dtcUx5X.png

"Blast," Rau said quietly. "We have to take them out. Neither will be happy to see us, but if those Deathtroopers infect the Stormtroopers, they'll be an even bigger threat. We could take them out from up here or bring the fight to them. I suggest keeping to the high ground."

Unfortunately, due to Braddoc's loud boots squeaking falsetto moments earlier, the heroes were detected by the Stormtroopers below. One of them looked at Braddoc and gasped: "Rebels!" It was at this point that the sergeant took aim at Marrl. "Take them out, but don't let the Deathtroopers get close!"

HALLWAY AMBUSH, cont.

After a long and bloody battle, our heroes stood victorious. With only the Sergeant and two other enemies remaining, the Stormtrooper and the Infected fired on each other. Seeing his last man fall, the Sergeant knelt next to one of his fallen soldiers and placed a hand on the corpse. He then pointe his blaster to his chin. The sound of the blaster echoed throughout the chamber as he fell to the side, dead.

"The core is right through there," Rau said as he pointed to the blast door. "Let's end this."

After the group managed to patch themselves up and took care of some of their more dire injuries as best as they could, they progressed onward, as Rau bid them to.

THE CORE
As the group entered the core, they were hit by the heat of the massive room. There were numerous columns of coolant, several secondary power sources, and the massive core itself.

engine_core_fin.png

Just then, Rau pulled out a handheld scanner. "Damn... We have a problem."

He showed Marius the scanner. "The room's shielding will block all incoming signals, meaning we can't blow the charges remotely. I can set the charges to a timer, but it has to be under an hour. Any longer and we risk the core frying them."

Considering for a moment, how much time they had left to set the explosives and get back to their vessel, Rau informed the group that it would take about 40 minutes to get back to the hangar if they run. "Not a lot of time, but it is the best we can do."

The Agent set down the bags of charges and directed the heroes to various areas of the core. "Grab some charges and attach them to the coolant tanks, main power supply, and secondary generators. The more damage we do in here, the quicker the ship will go." He took a few charges into his hands and hurried to the far coolant tanks.

Once Marius, Jhann and Cal were finished with their task, Rau asked if everyone was ready to get going, before pulling out the detonator. He pushed a few buttons on the device. "And it's set for one hour! Let's get the hell out of here!" He bolted out of the door without waiting for anyone to follow.

It took 40 minutes for the heroes to reach the hangar from the core of the ship.

As the group entered the hangar, they saw several Deathtroopers attempting to gain entry into the Rebels' ship. Most were unarmed, but three of them were carrying blaster rifles. There were also two Imperial Navy Officers with a seven-foot-tall trooper wearing a suit of power armor among them. He was holding a massive blaster connected to a power pack on his back....

EPILOGUE: THE HANGAR

As the party entered the hangar, they saw three Deathtroopers attempting to enter their ship along with two Imperial Navy Officers with a 7-foot-tall trooper draped in an armored powersuit, between them and the shuttle. The Officers were armed with heavy blasters, but the remaining troops were toting modified E-11 blaster rifles, while the Phase III Dark Trooper was seen holding a massive blaster connected to a power pack on his back.

"We're going to have to get past them," Rau said quietly in a firm voice. "If they leave the Revenant, all hope is lost for the galaxy."

A prolonged firefight between the Rebel task force and the Imperials ensued, with the Rebels standing victorious in the end - thanks in part, to young Ethan's ingenuity in taking down the hangar bay's biggest threat - and in spite of some injuries taken by Cal and Lana who sacrificed their own well-being to protect others.

As the last Deathtrooper dropped dead, the Rebels heard the screams for more coming from the hallway. At least fifty undead troopers and shambling down it, some with blasters, some with knives, and some with only their bloody claws. Those with blasters attempted to take aim while continuing to let out more horrifying screeches.

At that point, the Rebel party broke into a swift run as they made for their escape ship.

"Get on board! We have to get out of here!" Rau cried out before he too, broke into a sprint. Once everyone got on board the shuttle, they noticed that the protocol droid, LT, was waiting for them inside - safe and sound - cowering near the main entrance. When he saw the heroes entering the ship, he exclaimed happily: "You are back! Thank the Maker! You are still functioning!"

Once everyone got settled in and Cal went through the pre-flight check as the designated pilot, the shuttle finally took off, leaving the dreadful Imperial Star Destroyer Revenant . . . forever behind.

Despite being a fair distance from the ship, Rau insisted that you all stayed within viewing distance of it until the Revenant exploded. As it did so, Rau let out a sigh of relief. "Finally . . . It's over . . . " He took out his datapad. "I have a lot of data on Imperial bioweapons on here. I just hope it helps us make a difference in the galaxy. I trust you know where to go to get me back to base?" He smiled and pulled out a pouch of credits. "Here. It's not much, but I want to thank you for saving me."

The pouch contained 2,000 credits per player. "Don't spend it all in one place," Rau grinned, eyes flickering with mischief. "And now - let's go home."
